(An entry in my 200 Albums project. Starting March 2026 I decided to listen to 200 more-or-less random albums.)
Part of my random generation strategy is to ask someone – What’s an album I should listen to? Tom the bartender suggested Twilight Override, probably because I’d just mentioned that I went to see Rhett Miller recently. I’ve listened to a lot of Tweedy and Wilco and was rabid about Uncle Tupelo’s No Depression when it came out so I was completely willing to drop a 3-disc album into the mix.
I’m not sure I’ve ever been so bored listening to an album. Half-way through the first disc I started wondering if I’d made a serious mistake.
Now that I think about it, I was never as enthused by Wilco as I was by Uncle Tupelo and the Mermaid Ave. sessions. Maybe my Tweedy phase was over years ago buy I just didn’t realize it until now.
